Assemble the proper cleaning supplies. "We recommend a pan of hot water Simple Green cleaning compound Ronsonol Lighter Fluid TG's Rocket Fuel Hi-Speed Reel Oil Reel X and Super Lube Grease."
Some of my fishing buddies like me have invested a lot of money in the fishing reels they own. With few exceptions though these guys rarely treat their reels like the expensive finely tuned pieces of equipment they are.
Baitcasting Reels: These reels work with the weight of your bait or lure as it pulls on the line and turns the spool. They are typically preferred by more experienced anglers especially when using heavier lures and lines for large game fish. Handles are usually located on the right-hand side of the reel. Most baitcasting reels incorporate a drag system which adjusts the resistance or drag on your spool and controls the level of resistance needed to pull the right length of line off the spool many anglers prefer baitcasting reels for larger stronger game fish like musky or smallmouth bass particularly if they′ll be out on the water for an extended period of time. Many saltwater anglers also use baitcasting reels for species like striped bass some baitcasting reels come in one-piece designs that lessen the corrosive effects of saltwater.
Assemble the proper tools before you begin. "You'll need two small screwdrivers — a slot head and a Phillips — along with a pair of tweezers and an old toothbrush. If you have the wrench and parts list that came with your reel keep them handy too."
After cleaning components are inspected before reassembly. If a part won′t endure a complete season it needs to be replaced. Items subject to normal wear and tear like plastic drag knobs are checked for stress cracks. Drag washers typically last a couple of years depending on use; a shiny or worn one needs to be replaced immediately. Technicians also know whether to lube the drag washers. Certain drag material requires lubricants to work properly while others are designed to stay dry and grease-free. Keep your spinners spinning smoothly and they won′t let you down when that drag starts screaming.
